'Hear them Speak' Narrative runs deep, Colour runs wild
Lapping Up The Sun now hangs in the home above where this beloved pet loves to sit.
I returned to Wellington, New Zealand. My beautiful adopted homeland after hosting a successful Open Studio in Wales (my country of birth) earlier this year and participating in two exhibitions on the stunning island of Anglesey. I showcased a new body of work entitled 'Sense of Belonging' depicting the amazing beaches and landscapes of that island. October 20th. sees the opening of a new exhibition with some flower paintings of mine being displayed up in Taranaki to coincide with The Taranaki Garden Festival 2017.
My acrylic paintings are colourful, daringly bold, and a suggestive observation of a moment captured. Being expressive in movement, brushstrokes, vibrant & watchful of reflective values in thought and light.
When teaching I implored students to be expressive and dynamic in movement and facial expressions. I am now this in my art . " Colour is pivotal to my work "
Vincent Van Gogh said: "Colour in a picture is like enthusiasm in life" ~
Dutch Post-Impressionist Painter, 1853-1890
Hiraeth - means Journey in Welsh and something more
When a commission is undertaken I go on a 'hiraeth' and invite the client to go on this with me. Process shots of the work being undertaken are shared (if client wishes) Commissioned portraits have the subjects favourite colours incorporated into them or yours if it is a portrait of your beloved pet or a landscape of a memorable place or view you love. Paintings can be commissioned costing from $350 NZ depending on size of painting required and if a portraiture piece how many people will be painted. As a painting of three takes a lot more hours/weeks to paint than a single person.
I take a lot of care and time over my commissions as I want the recipient to be very happy with their painting. Time is spent embedding important memories or words that are important to you the client and or the person or animal in the portrait. Each painting is very personal and important touches are part of the painting as they are something I feel help in encapsulating a one off experience that should last years and years.
